Extruders play a critical role in industrial production, and their reliable operation is essential for maintaining production efficiency and product quality. Proper daily maintenance can effectively extend the service life of extruders and reduce the occurrence of failures. The following are the key points for routine extruder maintenance.

Lubrication is a critical aspect of routine maintenance. Each shift, inspect all lubrication points at least once or twice and replenish with sufficient lubricant. Additionally, monitor bearing temperatures to ensure they do not exceed 50°C. Proper lubrication reduces component wear and ensures smooth equipment operation.

Prior to starting extrusion, the barrel and die must be heated and maintained at a constant temperature; production must not commence unless the material has reached its plasticization temperature. The screw should be started at low speed and, after running at this speed for a sufficient period, the speed should be gradually increased. Furthermore, the idle running time of the barrel and screw should not exceed 2–3 minutes.

During operation, the current of the main motor should be monitored regularly. If the motor is found to be operating under overload for an extended period (transient overloads are permissible), the machine must be stopped immediately, the cause of the fault identified, and the fault rectified before production can resume. After the barrel has been heated to a constant temperature, the mounting bolts connecting the barrel to the base must be tightened securely.

Before installing the screw and the mold, clean the mating surfaces of the parts, and apply a layer of molybdenum disulfide or silicone oil to the fastening bolts to facilitate disassembly at high temperatures. During disassembly, do not strike the working surfaces of the parts with a heavy hammer; if necessary, use a hardwood block as a cushion. When removing residual material from the barrel, screw, and mold, only use bamboo or copper scrapers—steel tools are prohibited, and open-flame heating is also forbidden.

In addition, ensure that the equipment is kept clean by regularly cleaning the oil pump filter screen. At the same time, inspect all pipelines for integrity and look for any signs of leakage, spillage, dripping, seepage, or other abnormal conditions.

In summary, the daily maintenance of extruders is a meticulous and critical task. Operators must adhere strictly to the maintenance guidelines, promptly identify and resolve any issues, and thereby ensure the stable operation of the extruder.
